Do you want to spend an evening away from unwanted noise, chores or admin? Would you like to lose yourself and spend an evening drawing?
Whether you’re an absolute beginner or not touched pastels since you were at school, moderately happy with your drawing skills or pretty good but find it hard to make the time for such a soothing activity, why not come and spend time with Anne-Laure and Cloud and just let loose!
What better antidote to a day in front of the screen than drawing beautiful plants in a carefully curated still life. We welcome you into a charming space to playfully explore drawing in your own way. As Paul Klee once said: "a drawing is just a line going for a walk", and so we will reflect this in our workshops - it is not so much about what you put on the page, it's more about how it makes you feel.
During the evening, you are free to draw at your own pace or if you feel a little unsure follow a series of quick, fun, experimental exercises that we have developed to help loosen up and get the creativity flowing. This is a non-judgmental space, where we come together to share ideas, explore ourselves through drawing and find peace of mind by doing so.
How you feel, and your connection to what you are drawing is so much more important than worrying about the finished product. Yes, it takes practice to draw skilfully, but it is the emotion with which you draw that is conveyed to the onlooker - not the precision and perfect lines of the image.
"For me (Cloud), who hasn’t drawn since school and who wasn’t particular good at it (in the conventional sense), I’ve been longing to go somewhere where I can just get lost in my imagination and see what happens. Just escape from my day/week/life. I want to be play and have fun and not be judged by what I create”.
“And for me (Anne-Laure) drawing is a form of meditation, it allows me to sit back and get perspective on my thoughts. It allows me to sit in one place for an amount of time, without reaching for my phone, fiddling, or thinking about the next thing I should be doing. It is a moment of calm in my day and gives me clarity. Doing daily drawings of how I feel also act as a form of self- therapy. I have a really clear record of how I was and where I have come, so much easier to see my journey than a notebook full of a hand written journal!
Drawing is about making lines and dots on paper. Don’t be afraid, if you can write your name, you can draw. However in life, we all take shortcuts when we see; often our brains fool us, and we skip over most visual details. If you think about some species of dragonfly can only be distinguished from others by the vein patterns in their wings, then skipping details should not be an option. It’s all there – if you just look closely and precisely.
Anne-Laure and Cloud would love you to take some time out to look at details, take them in and expand your mind. We will create an environment where you will not be judged and you are free to draw how you want and interpret what you see as you like.
Hope to see you soon.
